About Us

At CareAssist Services, caring begins with connecting.

Decades of caring for patients through home care, long-term care and acute care taught Janis Adams, RN, that taking care of people was about much more than filling prescriptions and making beds. She found that providing care that nurtured independence and truly improved quality of life takes trust and personal attention. With these qualities in mind, she founded CareAssist Services. Her vision was to create a professional home care company that would provide the highest quality
in-home care to clients of all ages.

Based in Southern California, CareAssist Services is dedicated to providing high quality, personalized in-home care to adults and seniors who are physically, developmentally and cognitively challenged. We provide quality home care aides to assist clients with personal and respite care relief for family caregivers, as well as companionship and homemaker services. Every member of the CareAssist team is committed to treating clients from all cultures, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, ages, genders and disabilities with respect at all times.

Our company is very pleased to announce that one of our Home Care Aides was chosen as a finalist for the Senior Serv Senior Care Caregiver Hero Award. He is Lorenzo De La Rosa, and he was recognized on Saturday October 20th at the annual Senior Serv Senior Care Hero Gala at The Grove in Anaheim. The awards gala celebrates the unsung heroes in the senior industry. Last year it raised $260,000, providing thousands of meals and loving contacts to at risk seniors through their Meals-On-Wheels program. Lorenzo exemplifies at the highest level, our company’s core values: Integrity, Compassion, Service and Education. We are so privileged to have Lorenzo on our team. Thank you Lorenzo, for all you’ve done for our clients and their families.

Our vision is to create a caring and supportive environment where our clients reach their highest level of function, quality of life, and optimal ability at home; providing restorative care, encouraging independent behaviors rather than creating dependent behaviors, and preventing unnecessary ER visits and hospitalizations.

Who We Are

What Sets CareAssist Apart

Restorative Care

Focusing on what clients CAN do rather than what they CAN’T do, our home care aides offer just the right support to encourage independence. By nurturing independence rather than creating care-dependent behaviors, we enable each client to reach their highest level of function, leading to an improved quality of life at home.

CareAssist Home Care Professionals

In addition to being exceptionally dedicated, caring individuals, every CareAssist Services Care Professional is painstakingly selected and highly trained. From full screenings and background checks to in-depth training and supervision from an RN Care Manager, our experienced, professional, Care Pros are bonded, insured and available for full-time, part-time, live-in, or “as needed” care.

The CareAssist Promise

Focused on providing personalized restorative care founded on honesty, trust and understanding, CareAssist Services and our dedicated team get to know each patient to determine their unique needs. Commonly Asked Questions and Concerns

Why should I use a licensed home care organization (HCO)?

A licensed HCO is required to:

  • Hire only Home Care Aides that are registered, fingerprinted and vetted by the State of California Home Care Services Bureau (Dept of Social Services).
  • Provide at least 5 hours of specific continuing education (CE) upon hire and annually to every Home Care Aide. CareAssist Services provides at least 14 hours CE upon hire and annually.
  • Carry professional and general liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, and a bond for all Home Care Aide employees. These policies protect clients; their families and the home care aides that assist them in their homes.
  • A licensed HCO provides continuity of care for clients and families when a Home Care Aide is sick or has an emergency and is unable to work their scheduled shift. A replacement is found immediately.
  • Provide complete payroll services and pays all the appropriate State and Federal taxes to their employee Home Care Aides as required by law. In contrast, a client/family who hires a “private” caregiver is legally responsible for all taxes and will be fined by the Sate of CA and IRS for fraud, including penalties and back payments.

In addition, as a licensed HCO, CareAssist Services is:

  • Accredited by the ACHC, which requires us to provide an initial and at least a monthly supervisory visit to insure that the Home Care Aide is exceeding our clients’ expectations.
  • Required to conduct annual performance reviews of all our employees.
  • Required to perform an initial client assessment, develop a comprehensive care plan and adjust the care plan based on each of our client’s ongoing health issues and challenges.

Is CareAssist Services licensed by the state of California’s Department of Social Services?

The agency is currently in the process of being licensed by the state of California’s Department of Social Services. All current California home care agencies are going through this NEW process and must be licensed by the state of California in order to provide home care services to clients in their homes. This is a NEW California state law, effective 1/1/16.

Does health insurance or Medicare cover CareAssist’s fees?

Medicare does not cover the CareAssist services. Generally, health care insurance does not cover home care services except for one-hour visits by a licensed RN or LVN. However, long-term care insurance often does pay for home care services.

Are your home care aides licensed and insured?

Yes. All home care aides employed by the agency are registered with the state of California. This is a new California state law, effective 1/1/16. The registration includes an application; tuberculosis test result, a $25 fee and complete fingerprinting that must be cleared through the Department of Justice, FBI and sexual predator list.

Is there a 24/7 phone answering service?

We provide 24/7 phone coverage with an immediate answer by a dedicated agency employee, never an “answering service”.

Is there an RN on staff?

Janis Adams, founder and president of CareAssist Services, is a registered nurse with over 30 years of clinical nursing experience, including acute care, emergency room and home care.

Will I have the opportunity to meet and/or interview a home care aide prior to starting service?

Yes. Families and clients have the opportunity to meet and interview each prospective home care aide prior to starting service. If for any reason, the client is not satisfied or does not feel the home care aide is a good fit, they can call the agency office at any time to ask for a replacement with no questions asked.

How quickly can CareAssist begin service?

Normally, we ask for least three business days to schedule start of services to ensure the time to find the ideal fit. However, in the past, the agency has been able to start service with less than 24 hours notice.

How does the agency supervise their employee home care aides in the client's home?

The agency supervisor (a licensed RN or LVN) makes supervisory and client assessment visits to all clients at least every 30 days. However, depending on their level of care, many clients may have weekly supervisory visits by a licensed LVN. We also reserve the right to make unscheduled supervisory visits to check on employee home care aides.

What qualifications, certifications, experience and training are required of employee home care aides?

Effective 3/1/16, the state of California’s Department of Social Services requires that all home care agencies provide at least five hours of training, orientation and continuing education upon hire and then annually thereafter. Going beyond state requirements to ensure the highest quality home care aides available, CareAssist Services requires 15 hours of continuing education, training and orientation upon being hired but prior to having contact with clients, and then the same 15 hours annually going forward.

Are there a required minimum number of hours per shift or per week?

There is no minimum number of shifts per week. However, we recommend that clients have service at least twice a week in order to establish a trusting, comfortable relationship with his or her home care aide. We normally ask our clients for a minimum of four hours per shift per day.

Who do I contact with requests, questions or complaints?

Client or family members can contact us directly 24/7 by calling our office direct at 949-276-8413. Our continuous quality improvement program oversees and manages all customer/employee requests, questions, complaints and incident reports. Client and employee satisfaction surveys are mailed regularly to all clients and employees throughout the year. All surveys are graded and tracked every quarter with adjustments in policies and procedures made according to the feedback.

What cities or geographical areas does CareAssist serve?

We provide services to all cities within Orange County, as well as bordering cities in Los Angeles County and Riverside County.
